Artist of my Summer: Charli XCX

charlixcx

After a rather explosive and prolific 2012, Charlotte Aitchison, better known as Charli XCX is finally dropping a proper LP this spring. True Romance will feature four of her best known hits, “You’re The One,” “Nuclear Seasons,” “You (Ha Ha Ha),” and “So Far Away” along with eight new tracks.

Here’s why you should be paying attention:

  • Her catchy, massive goth-pop tunes have been named some of the best tracks of 2012 amongst music critics.
  • You know that Icona Pop anthem, “I Love It” that you’ve been blaring in your car without a care in the world? Yep, she was a featured artist.
  • Because “You’re The One” redefines what pop music can do in this internet-obessed, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it culture.
  • Listen to Nuclear Seasons just once and you’ll understand. Seriously.

Watch out for Charli XCX this summer because her trajectory is only going higher.

Morrissey’s plan to end war: homosexuals

It looks like Moz is at it again. In an interview with Rookie, the singer blamed heterosexuals for bringing about war in the world.

War, I thought, was the most negative aspect of male heterosexuality. If more men were homosexual, there would be no wars, because homosexual men would never kill other men, whereas heterosexual men love killing other men… wars and armies and nuclear weapons are essentially heterosexual hobbies.

It seems to be Moz’s ploy to achieve world peace is through homosexuals. What a novel concept?

Morrissey has never been the one to shy away from controversy, however. Yesterday, the singer canceled his performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in protest of the show’s decision to book the stars of A&E’s show “Duck Dynasty.” Morrissey, a long-time animal rights activist, called the cast “animal serial killers.” The performance would have been Morrissey’s first in a month, after the singer was plagued with a bleeding ulcer that resulted in concert cancellations.

I’d like to hear your thoughts. Are animal loving homosexuals the solution to violence?

Perfect music for my motivation today. Has a nice, calming lull to it. Girl bands to the rescue!

The New Robyn: Or, Why I’m Obsessed With Nicola Roberts

It’s not very often that I’m impressed by pop music, but the last couple of years have brought about Lykke Li, Roisin Murphy, Robyn (a re-birth, if you will) and Marina and the Diamonds, to name a few.

All of these artists have brought an emotional sphere to their sugar-coated edges, which has translated into, dare I say, smart pop music. I’m all for dance music, but if you feed me a little more depth, I’m sold.

And that brings me to Nicola Roberts. What’s not to love?

-She has plenty of hoo-oo-oo-oks.
-Her voice takes influence from Robyn, Gwen Stefani and Kate Bush.
-She is a red head that isn’t Geri Halliwell.

Anything else?

Oh, that’s right, she interviewed Lady Gaga.

I hope she gets some exposure in the states because she definitely has caught my attention.
